General information

Stepping Stones ChildcareMealtimeJohn and Debbie our qualified chefs prepare all our meals freshly each day on the premises. We have two menus that alternate weekly, at the nursery we offer food in a variety of ways to help introduce children to different foods and extend their experience.

Food is chosen not only for the nutritional value but also because of taste, smell, texture, and colour. Also we need to consider individual children’s religious and dietary requirements.

Starting children on a healthy diet will help them to develop good eating habits and provide the nutrients they need to grow and develop.

Snack timeChildren are offered rice cakes and water or milk to drink. Rice cakes are a healthier option to biscuits and along with current thinking, water is less harmful to children’s teeth than diluted orange or apple juice.

Dinner timeStaff and children sit together every day for dinner. A healthy balanced two course meal is provided together with water to drink. The menu describes in detail the types of meals provided over a two week period.

Tea timeChildren are offered freshly made sandwiches, a variety of fresh fruit and water or milk. Types of food offered are ham, cheese, chicken, bread, cucumber, apples, oranges, grapes, raisins, pears, bananas and plums.

The children have access to drinking water all day,

Exercise and fresh air

At Stepping Stones we are very fortunate to have a large and attractive outdoor space in both our centres.

Outdoor play encourages children to run, climb and jump providing the exercise that is vital to their wellbeing. Exercise increases their appetite, helps them to sleep and stimulates their minds.

Our children have unlimited access to outdoor play all year round.
