About Stepping Stones Childcare
Stepping Stones has a structured approach to how we look after our children, because routine is an extremely important. Routine gives children some control over their day, they understand that dinner follows story time and after dinner comes sleep time etc. As a result of this they feel secure and therefore confident.
Within this routine there are learning opportunities, but we are not a school, we have no formal lessons such as reading or writing, we firmly believe that children learn through their play and first hand experience offered to them. For example at circle time, when they recognise their name and the names of friends, or days of the week to put on the ‘whose serving at dinner today’ board. They find it fun but they are putting into practice their pre-reading skills or when they are serving out the dinner and reminded the younger children that the dinner is hot, they are establishing a caring for others.
At Stepping Stones we strive to give the children an understanding of respect for themselves and others. Children learn how to share, take turns and think about their friends’ feelings. We do lots of things together to encourage social development, mealtime for instance is important as we all eat together and at the same time staff are encouraging good manners and consideration of others.
Stepping Stones invites all those who place their child in our care to allow us to become their partners. Together we monitor progress, discuss areas of concern and build a relationship found in an extended family.
We welcome parents to come and be a part of the nursery, by offering suggestions, offering skills, sharing meals or just spend time with us.
We very much enjoy doing things together which is why we organise events such as barbecues and outings.
